What are you thankful for?

Faith. Family. Friends. Food. Home. Health. Job…

This month we celebrate Thanksgiving. During this time we like to focus on the things for which bike-freedomwe are thankful. Relationships with our families and friends are probably on the top of this list, and because this is a bike club newsletter, most likely cycling is way up on the list of things you are thankful for too.

So many of you have shared your love of cycling with your family, friends, neighbors, co-workers and have helped them to find what they enjoy most about this sport. Recently, a really amazing way of helping folks to get interested in using and enjoying bikes came across my desk…

HRBike member, Chris Calatrello is helping some of his clients by getting them road worthy bikes to serve their basic needs for transportation. Chris, has started a crowd-funding campaign to raise money to buy bikes, components, safety equipment, etc., for his community mental health services clients.

Here are a few examples of what has already been accomplished:

  • With help from HRBike, a bike was given to a single mom in Cowan who is using it to ride with her young son and also to get into town from her apartment complex. (Special thanks to Joe Capezza for building up the bike.)
  • Chris has given his old touring bike to a kid on his caseload who can’t rely on a parent or relative for transportation.
  • A Winchester city policeman has donated a hard-tail 29’er to a single father who has neither car nor license and has to take his young son to school using a bike trailer.

Chris is hoping to raise enough money to help others served by his agency and even other local agencies.
